Baby Loss Awareness Week – Remembering Rhianna Lily

How do you remember your baby girl who was born sleeping?

How do you remember your boys baby sister, and your boys big sister when they have never spent time with her or met her?

How do you do something that is right and is perfect to remember her?

We thought about this long and hard from the moment that Rhianna Lily died, until we finally made a decision this year. We went back and forth with our decision-making sure it was the right one, and in the end we decided to sponsor Ray, through bibic, who you can read about here.

We wanted to do something that we did in Rhianna’s memory.

We wanted to do something that gave another child, hope, love and support.

We wanted to do something that the boys could be proud of.

We wanted to do something that could be long-lasting.

We wanted to do something that was permanent.

We wanted to do something that we think she would approve of.

We have no ideas of what Rhianna’s views would have been, of what she loved, or didn’t love. So we couldn’t make the decision on that.

We had to literally make the decision for her.

We debated a long time donating money for research to look more into stillbirths and miscarriages.

But in the end we wanted something much more personal.

We wanted to know who we were helping.

We wanted the boys to know.

And we wanted to be able to shout about just one little person. We wanted that relationship, hearing about their achievements, seeing what we have helped them to learn, and the support they are given.

This is what we get with sponsoring Ray through bibic.

Today in the week of baby loss awareness, we received our first update about Ray.

Our first little bit of information about how he is developing and what our money has gone too.

He is gorgeous and growing up brilliantly.

He is doing amazing.

And we are supporting him, because of Rhianna Lily.

She isn’t here, but she is making Ray’s life a little easier, and making sure he gets the support he needs.

It is something we can see develop over the years.

It is something we can talk about to other people.

It is something Baba and Boo can talk about.

It is something they can be proud off.

It is something that we can see regularly.

It is something that is updated regularly.

And there is a little boy, who because our little girl never took a breath is getting the support he needs, he is improving because of it, he is growing because of it.

All with the help of our gorgeous little girl!

And as Baba said “even though she isn’t here, she is helping someone here” and that is quite amazing!

  • What a wonderful idea! It is something I thought of doing myself. I do wonder if things had been different with me would I have had another child. So I’m thinking once Keagan is earning and living his own life I may sponsor a child, perhaps a little girl. Will read up on the site you’ve shared. Thanks. Whan a lovely way to remember Rhianna Lily. Take care Zo xx

    • Thanks Zoe, it is a lovely thing to do and you really feel like you are making a little difference to someones life which makes it even better xx

  • Hi Kelly! It’s Carla from bibic. I am the lucky one who gets to see Ray and write to you about his progress and development, none of which would be possible without you. Your words about Rhianna Lily make my heart pound. To give little Ray hope for the future is such a lovely way to remember your little girl. Thank you, from all the families that rely on people like you to support bibic’s life changing therapy. We couldn’t do it without you. Lots of love Carla @ bibic x
