Does Rhianna Buy Me A Present?

It was a question an innocent question

But one that had been thought about for a long time.

One that had been bothering him

And one that completely threw me off guard.

“Mummy does Rhianna buy me a birthday present, because Boo and I buy her flowers?”

I was completely thrown and for a few seconds I didn’t really know what to say

But I could tell by the look, his eyes he needed an answer for this and he needed one right away

It was something that had been bothering him and something he had been thinking about

Every birthday we have a little tradition in our house where we wrap up one present in pink paper

A present from Rhianna

It isn’t a massive thing but it is a thing we do to make sure she is remembered

To make sure the boys see she is remembered and to have her included in every birthday

But answering that question was hard

And completely caught me off guard

It highlighted that he has been thinking about things

He is understanding a little more

Taking in a bit more information about the fact that his sister has died

And is trying to process it all

He has been thinking about it

And he doesn’t have the answer

So he asked me

And he expected me to have an answer

So I told him that we wrap up a present in pink to remember Rhianna because if she was here she would be buying him a present

Well as much as Baba and Boo buy presents for each other, because they don’t use their own money, they put their name on it but basically Mummy and Daddy buy all the presents and Baba and Boo take the credit.

He laughed, he accepted it, he carried on playing with Boo.

The question was asked, an answer was given and as always Baba was totally accepting and carried on with his everyday life.

And I sat and wondered if I said the right thing, or even if we do the right thing when it comes to presents and Rhianna Lily.

Who knows but for now Baba was pleased, he was happy and that is all we can hope for really.
