Holidaying With A Child Missing

Going on holiday is a fantastic time, I think with most families.

But when you are missing a child holidays can be hard.

You can be enjoying every single moment of the holiday and then suddenly the realisation that one of your children is missing hits you.

Your child isn’t with you.

Your child is missing out on the holiday.

Your child is missing out on the experience you are having with your other children.

And it is hard.

You can’t experience everything with them, that you are experiencing with your other children.

And it really does make it hard.

I can’t fully explain it.

You are having an amazing time, and creating amazing memories with your children and your family, but there is like a dullness right at the back of your heart.

Just a little void where you are fully aware that your child missing isn’t experiencing this holiday. Isn’t seeing the things your seeing. Isn’t making the memories your making.

And it makes you wonder would they love it here?

Would they hate it?

Would you be seeing something different so they had the best time?

Would you be going to different places?

All questions that can never be answered but ones you think about still the same!

And it is hard to make it feel like your missing child is included in your holiday.

We try to do this by letting the boys buy Rhianna something from where we are on holiday.

Whether it is something for her table or a Christmas decoration. We try to make sure we go back with something from where we have been so that she is thought about.

The boys think about her while they are choosing it.

They try to decide what she would like the most.

And she is included even if just for one shop, it is a bit of time in our holiday where it is all about her and only her.

This holiday we brought two things for her.

A Christmas decoration and an item for her table.

The boys chose her Christmas decoration from the Christmas shop we found and decided on an angel for their sister, and one that was holding a heart in her hands.

It was a perfect addition to her Christmas tree decorations and will look perfect on her pink tree this year.

We also all decided on a snow globe.

One with a Panda inside.

Rhianna’s thing definitely seems to be snow globes, it is something Mr L always hunts down for her and they are always so perfect.

They are very calming, almost magical.

And they are just perfect as little gifts for her, of places we have been and memories that we have made.

I love them.

And they are a simple but very effective way of including Rhianna in our holidays. And something that really makes us all happy and brings a smile to our face while we away.

Babyloss and creating memories of your children is so personal and so hard at times.

But in my experience I have found it can be made a lot easier with really simple, quiet ideas that take a few moments but include the whole family, including Rhianna Lily.

And these really can make a huge difference to a bad moment or memory.
