Bureau Love Number Two

I have always loved Bureaux, and my love of them has led to our house having a lot of them over the years. I brought my first one when I was pregnant with Baba in 2008 and in 2012 it got a massive revamp, which you can read about here.

Last year I found another amazing bureau that was perfect for a desk for Baba in his room, and it got a massive upcycling last year to become a funky marvel desk for his room.

But this year we had a disaster, in the knocking down of the walls in the kitchen my gorgeous original bureau broke, beyond repair. At first we thought just one leg had snapped and we were hoping that we could fix it with some wood glue and some TLC, however on closer inspection it became obvious that this piece of furniture had lived its last legs and was rotting all along the bottom of the unit. So it was time to go.

And I have to admit I was gutted, it was the first bureau I ever had after wanting one since I was a child and I was upset that after changing the kitchen to an amazing room we would no longer have this amazing piece of furniture in.

But it was not practical to fix it.

So I was on the hunt for some nice furniture and to be honest at first I wasn’t even looking for another bureau, but I wanted something to store all of Baba and Mr L’s little superhero bits and bobs, and this cupboard come up.

It was the perfect little cupboard, and I knew it would be great for all their little statues and objects to be stored safely.

But when I got it Mr L really didn’t like it and moaned that you wouldn’t be able to see all the items that they collect because of the doors. So for a while it just sat while we tried to work out what to do with it.

Then the other half of the unit also came up for sale.

Which happened to be…

An amazing bureau…

It was just perfect, I could have another bureau and it also had a great cupboard that went on top of it, so that I could use that for some super special things.

It was the perfect piece of furniture as it fitted perfectly in the wall space that was left in the kitchen after the walls were knocked down.

But it was the wrong colour.

So once I brought both the pieces home, they were both repainted with Old White Chalk Paint and the bureau was put in the right place with the cupboard on top of it.

It looked amazing, all painted white and put together and is one of the main features in our kitchen.

It was also the perfect place for the really special book folds, and Rhianna’s teddies that over time will get ruined out in the open. Where as in the cupboard they are protected and kept as safe as they can be.

I even managed to paint the inside and put a new cover down on the mat, so that it fitted in with the kitchen colours better than it did before.

It is a stunning piece in our kitchen and is used regularly as it has all of the boys art stuff in and their paper and pens.

Now that it is painted and upcycled to what we want it is even better than the first bureau that I was gutted to have to throw away and I love it!
