Baba and His Crafts #cbias

We love to craft in our house, obviously crafting is part of my job, and it has gone through the generations. Baba has as much a love for crafts as I do.

He often wants to get into my craft room and do some art, so we have given him his own craft area under the stairs so he can be like Mummy and toddle of and do his own art work whenever he feels like it.

He has a massive stash of art stuff, but never seems to stop adding to it. Whenever he sees new things he wants to buy them. But his big favourite it painting.

Anything that is painting related is a hit with Baba and it wouldn’t surprise me if he became a painter.

He had run out of paints so we headed on over to Hobbycraft to get some new craft bits and pieces. We both love Hobbycraft, not only does it have great things for adults in it also has a massive children’s craft selection and it is always Baba’s choice to go there. While we were there we also found these fabulous suncatchers.

Baba loves things like these and really wanted to get a couple and he was so excited to get started on them and get them painted.

He found them really easy once I explained that the paint stick wasn’t like a brush and that you had to get some paint on the end and then drip it onto the suncatcher. He loved this idea of painting and did a fantastic job of doing all the dots, and different colours for the eyes and fins.

He was really pleased with how it looked when he was finished. But he could not understand that he had to wait for a whole 24 hours before we can pick some ribbon to hang it from his bedroom.

However by now Baba was on a crafting roll, and on a painting one specifically. He ran off to get some paper and really wanted to try his new Smart Brushes.

These took a little bit of prepping on my part. You have to remove the lid and pierce the top of the paint pot with a pen, I did it first with the green and did the lid back up and then nothing seemed to come out even with Baba squeezing the tube. So I undid it and made a bigger hole and then we seemed to have a spillage down the side! Not sure whether that was my fault or the brushes but Baba didn’t care.

He loved the easiness of these brushes. Once he did a little squeeze the paint came out easily and he was able to do lots of different colours on the paper without getting messy or mixing all the colours (a parents dream, clean messy play).

He really took to these and managed to do not one but three pictures in less than half an hour. They seemed to flow really nicely and he painted a car, and a rainbow and just a random picture.

He also quickly learnt that you didn’t just have to use the brush, but instead you could put your fingers onto the brushes and do a little finger painting as well.

This painting was the start of his rainbow picture. The paints are just the right consistency. We have problems with paints. Baba is picky about them, if they are too thick he doesn’t like them, if they are too thin they go through his paper but these seemed just right and he could not smiling about them. So ones that we will be buying again.

All in all today was a good craft session. It was nice to get some different things to do and some new things to make, as I think Baba has moved up a stage in his arts and crafts. A few months ago he would not have sat long enough to try to do the suncatcher, but he suddenly seems to have that ability to sit and concentrate on new crafts.

The new brushes were great as well, as he can literally paint and doesn’t get distracted with mixing the paints into different colours and actually just concentrates on painting a picture. Both are things that I think we will be buying again and Baba can not wait to get his suncatcher hung up to see the colours that come through.
