Winter Wonders
The weather is getting colder and most other people are curling up indoors with their cups of hot chocolate and their fires on with their onesies keeping them warm.
In our house Baba loves winter, he stands at our window watching the world outside.
He loves the frost and the snow, and watches the animals outside our windows and outside Nannies windows. Baba is spoiled here we live in the country and he loves it and we all seem to have resident animals.
Ever since we have lived here, we have a visitor every winter, and it is one that Baba sits and eagerly waits for and that’s the robin that builds a nest in our hedge. They fly in and out throughout the day, and Baba has got so interested in watching them over the years that last year Mr L and him sat down and made a bird house. It is something that Baba loves to do, he just loves helping wildlife and every year he finds a little more information out about them and knows a bit more of what he should do, he is becoming a little bit of a pro and there are so many things to do to help the wildlife in the winter.
Baba doesn’t just get to see robins, his Daddies Nannies house seems to have a resident pigeon that comes into the garden over the winter months and it has become a fun activity to feed ‘Dave’ the pigeon for all the grandchildren. They love throwing out some rice to help him get some regular food over the harsh months and all of them get so excited when he starts pottering around in the garden.
But the best place for Baba is going to Mummies Nannies, their house backs onto fields and we see various animals all year. But in the harsh winter, and when it snows Baba loves to spot a brown fox roaming the fields and they do get lots roaming, Baba thinks they are beautiful and gets very excited when he sees them. I have to admit they almost glisten when it snows and they look stunning in the untouched snow across the fields.
He gets to lead a very lucky childhood, seeing all these animals in the flesh around him and seeing how they change and what they do differently in different seasons. As he is getting older we are learning more and more about what we can do to help the animals and what animals to expect to see. My dream is to take him to Center Parcs and let him experience these animals in a very close up way, and in a way where time doesn’t matter and he can sit and chill and watch their every move and learn all about them.
But for now we will get our rice in, and some peanuts and make sure we get to see all these great animals this winter and help them as much as possible through these tough months.
