When It Rains, It Literally Pours

Thursday night I went to bed and Mr L who had gone to bed previously was pacing around upstairs with stomach pain. Complaining that he had brought a chicken sandwich earlier in the day and thought that he possibly had a bit of food poisoning.

He was literally cramping over in pain, and would then be fine and then would be cramping up in pain again. With these sharp shooting pains in his stomach, it was like watching a man in labour. He was fine for a little bit and then the pain, like a contraction would start and he was generally in agony.

He went to see if he could be ill, as he felt a little sick but nothing happened. However the pains were still there.

I tried to get a little sleep but repeatedly got woken by him moaning, and thrashing around. It got to about two am and the pains were now also in his back and he felt like his kidneys were being kicked. He looked like he was in so much pain. I asked him if needed to go to hospital but he insisted that he would wait for the doctor in the morning and would just have the day of work instead.

Sleep never came for Mr L thursday night and was very far and in between for me I have to admit. I was a little scared as I have never seen him in so much pain, and repeatedly asked whether he should go to hospital but he kept saying he would wait.

By 6am he was asking to go to hospital, now anyone who knows Mr L will know that getting him to agree to go to the doctors is a little like pulling teeth so for him to ask to go to hospital he is in a lot of pain. He has a very strong pain threshold anyway so I knew it was bad.

A quick phone call to the MIL and she agreed to have Baba for us, we then got dressed, even that Mr L struggled with. Once we were all ready we made the journey to hospital with Mr L cramping and in a lot of pain all the way.

We finally arrived at the doctors at 7.30am and were quickly seen by a nurse who gave Mr L some painkillers and then he was transferred to a bed on A and E. We saw numerous doctors throughout the day and nurses regularly. Lots of things were mentioned kidney stones, kidney infections, gall stones to name a few.

We weren’t there for long before Mr L needed more painkillers and then some more, by this point he was put on some morphine and if nothing else it enabled him to sleep. He was so tired and couldn’t sleep because of the pain that I think he was grateful just to be able to shut his eyes.

We eventually got the blood test results back and everything came back clear so all possibly problems from earlier were taken out of the equation. The doctor mentioned that Mr L could have Gastroenteritis even though he had no sickness or diarrhoea. He said that Mr L would be moved to a ward and if he could cope with the pain then he would be sent home otherwise he would be admitted over night.

Soon after this Mr L was put on a drip with some muscle relaxant medicine and we were then moved into a ward. Here Mr L really did sleep for a little while, we both did to be honest. We were both shattered and the chair was far more comfortable than the chair I had in A and E so we both managed a little snooze. Until we were both woken by the nurses discussing who they were placing bets on today at the Grand National!

Mr L’s pain felt better than it had all day although he was still in a lot of pain it wasn’t as bad as it was so when the doctor came back around, he decided that he could come home with a selection of medicines and go back in later on for an ultrasound to check his stomach as an outpatient.

He was pleased to be coming home, I was pleased he was coming home. But it was still obvious that Mr L was still really not well. We got home last night picked up Baba and he just went to bed. We had been back a couple of hours when he was shouting out in pain again. He had his tablets and seemed to crash out in bed. He was so incredibly tired.

He did manage to sleep for most of the night but was up at 6am in a lot of pain again, he seems ok in between but the cramps are still there and are still causing a lot of pain. So today we are chilling Mr L is resting and hopefully the tablets will start to kick in as it is horrible to see him this ill.

To be perfectly honest this year can do one, it has quite possibly been the worst ever. I was sick for near on three months, we lost Rhianna and now this. So I have decided that is enough.

We have had enough.

Let’s stop now.

Let’s change a corner and get some luck!
