Spot Be Gone
Baba has had a spot on his arm for about a year or so now. We noticed it first and thought it was a little pigment spot, that was bright red, he has one of these below his eye that comes and goes from time to time, so we noticed it but didn’t take a lot of notice if that makes sense.
It popped up below his elbow on his arm, but gradually this spot looked a little different to the one below his eye, and suddenly started to get bigger and bigger. I took him to the doctors and got told it was fine, I did get given a name but to be honest I can’t remember what it was. I was told not to worry, it would get bigger and then one day would fall off and was completely normal.
So we came home and left it, although I have to admit I was a little miffed, as I didn’t think it was a great response.
Over the last year this spot has repeatedly changed, shape, size and colour. It it bright red, to light red and sometimes even looks a little white. It gets incredibly small to the point that Mr L and I actually think that “it will fall off soon, maybe even next week” and then just stays there getting bigger and bigger, it doesn’t grow in width it seems to go in height more than anything. It then gets knocked and bleeds and bleeds for a good half hour if not more.
In the last year we have been back to the doctor four or five times, and every one of them has told us that it will disappear on its own and to not worry about it. Although our own doctor last said that if there was a problem then we could get it removed.
This last weekend it has got to its large stage, and I had noticed that Baba seemed to be prodding it and picking it a little more than usual. He is after all a 3-year-old boy and got to that hideous stage of picking every scab, and spot in site on his body.
He commented to my mum yesterday that it was going to fall off soon, if only we had known how soon.
This morning he came into me and told me that his spot was bleeding, when I looked it was pouring with blood, and he finally admitted that he had bitten the top of the spot of. He then kept prodding and poking, and carried on picking the spot, until I managed to get a plaster on him. As much to stop him prodding and picking as to stop him bleeding to be honest.
He went up his Nannies and I made him swear that he would not take off the plaster as his spot had to stop bleeding before he could do that. I came home and it bothered me.
What if he does that again? Your mouth is full of germs what if he gets this spot infected? What if he picks it at pre school and gets something in the wound? What if it gets infected again?
I decided to call the surgery and try to get a doctor to call me to discuss this and the possibility to get this spot removed. I rang, all ready for a fight as it is never easy getting to speak or see a doctor. But luck seemed to be on my side, something happened so I couldn’t get through to the reception and actually got through to our own personal doctors receptionist and she said there were no phone conversations and was it something she could help with.
I explained the whole situation and she agreed that it had to be taken off due to infection and managed to get me an appointment with our own doctor for 5pm. I was shocked but so pleased.
We went in at 5 and Baba thought it was brilliant and was telling the doctor what was wrong with him before we even got into the surgery room. The doctor had a check of the said spot, and asked all about it. He then asked Baba how old he was and agreed that he thought it was best to have the spot taken off, but because Baba is only three he has to go to the local hospital to get it removed. So he said that he would refer him today but it could take up to three months until we get the appointment.
So we are now on the waiting list for this tiny spot removal and I can not wait! It has been bugging us all for a while but is now totally annoying Baba and I do worry about infection with something like this a lot. So I will be waiting with eager breath to get the date for this appointment so that this silly little horrible red spot can finally go!
