Tropical or Coldwater

The beginning of last week, in all the run up to the wedding Mr Snail died.

He was a grand old age of nearly five as Baba got him about 18 months, we knew he wasn’t going to be around for much longer as he was hibernating more and more and eating less and less, so it wasn’t a great shock when we realised he had gone.

We had prepared Baba, and he was actually fine about it.

He loved having Mr Snail, and actually was very grown up about it all.

However within a couple of days Baba was asking if he could have some fish.

We don’t have a great track record with fish, we brought some for Baba when he was really tiny and we went through loads of goldfish before we decided that we really weren’t fish people.

But Baba and Boo love fish, whenever we go to the pet shop to get things for the dogs or rabbit they spend hours watching the fish. Mr L has always wanted some more fish, but rather than the normal goldfish he has always wanted some tropical fish. Which I am not overly keen on.

I like them, but we can barely look after the bog standard goldfish so I really don’t think we will manage any tropical fish.

We had a look today, and got told that the only difference was the heater. To me I remember having a bowl of water, and no filter and moving my fish every time I had to clean them and them lasting ages, rather than having a filter and putting in bacteria and the fish dying within a couple of weeks.

So we are torn, Baba and Mr L want tropical fish, I want some boring old goldfish, Boo just wants some fish to be honest.

But most of all we all want some fish that are going to live rather than die within a couple of days. So what will be the best? Do we start of with cold water fish, and try to keep them alive or do we jump straight in and try to keep some tropical fish alive? Are they really that easy to look after?

Decisions, decisions all we want are some fish!
