Toilet Training #5
I have written about toilet training a lot in the past you can see all the posts here Baba started toilet training in May 2011 and cracked it quickly. We had started him before this but it was more that we thought he should be training and he really wasn’t ready. So when it came too night time toilet training we really left him too it and decided that we would wait until he was ready.
We waited, and waited and waited.
Baba really did show no interest at all into being trained at night. His nappy was still full every morning, and he showed no bother about having to put a nappy on, he just didn’t care. We were beginning to wonder whether our child would never be out of nappies for bedtime, but didn’t want to push him either as it was a complete and utter disaster when we pushed him and he was too early for daytime. So we left him longer.
Then suddenly Baba started hating putting on pullups, he started kicking up and he started making noises that he didn’t want to wear them anymore and be a big boy. He had had a few situations were he had to have no nappy, when his daddy was kept in hospital over night and he had to just be left at his Nannies for the night she decided that she would brave the whole no nappy thing and he was fine. So we did know that he could do it if he had to.
But then we were faced with a dilemma Baba was going camping with my sister for a couple of nights and we didn’t want to start him training before the trip! So we held off.
In the end we decided that we would just do it and send him camping with a couple of nappies, probably not the recommended way but we figured that Baba would understand. So we went with no nappy.
We were right to start Baba did understand completely that he needed a nappy for camping only and straight away went back with no nappies and no issues.
This summer we have really been concentrating silently on his training at night, we have had a few accidents. The first week we had a couple, but not over night they were all in the morning. That early morning wakeup that seemed to lead to Baba having a small accident. However we haven’t had many over night we had one night when he had three, but he wasn’t 100% and only one other night where he had an accident over night.
He has been an absolute star, he does get upset when he has an accident but he is so good he gets up in the night when we take him to the toilet and heads straight back to sleep with no complaints, and for the whole 6 weeks he has been without nappies he has been brilliant with the whole thing.
He was ready and I am so glad that we waited. It is a strange feeling in one hand we are so proud that he has done it, in the other it is the last baby thing gone forever. There are no more nappies needed in the house for Baba, and it is a sad realisation that he is now certainly our big boy and not our little baby boy anymore!
