Hospital Visit #2billion!

That’s obviously not real, but some days it does feel like that. It feels like Baba has been and out of hospital for various things in his short few years that he has been here.

He has been in five or six times with croup, five or six times with his convulsions, and then we had a combination of visits with his eyes and his operation. Which he was luckily discharged from relatively quickly.

But yesterday we were back for another reason, Baba has had this lump/spot on his arm since he was about one. It gets bigger, then smaller and then bigger again, although it never fully disappears. If he knocks it, it seems to bleed lots and lots and we have been going back and forth to the doctors about it for a good year now asking if it can be removed. Each time we go we get met with the news that it will fall of eventually. It is really raised and it doesn’t look like it has any intention of falling off and I have to be honest, Mr L and I were really feeling like we were being fobbed off about it.

Then Baba bit it, he bit the top completely off and it bleed, it really did bleed, but it was still there after the bleeding stopped and hadn’t gone down or got smaller at all. So we went back to the doctors, we were worried, firstly for infection purposes, secondly for the fact that Baba may not ever leave this alone and thirdly for scaring.

The doctor agreed that it wasn’t a great situation so decided to send Baba to the dermatology department at the hospital as he is only three the doctor wasn’t able to take it off at the surgery. To say I was shocked was an understatement to be honest. We were really shocked that this was resulting in hospital visits and everything else.

We waited months for an appointment and finally got one yesterday to be given the technical name for his spot, some long medical name that only doctors can pronounce, and be told that he has a rare form of it. It is basically a benign tumour and 80% of children get them. The doctor didn’t seem phased but said they usually come just after birth and disappear quickly Baba’s didn’t arrive until he was one so she wasn’t sure when it would actually go, so she felt it was probably best to remove it. Especially as he is bothered by it.

We got two options. Option One put him completely under with a general and have the spot/lump removed, and wait until he is six so that he can have a local and have it taken off that way.

Well I was on my own and I had no clue what to say, luckily she said that I didn’t have to decide then, that she would write to his doctor and we could decide any when and just call the doctor to tell him our decision. We came out of the doctors a little confused. I spoke to Mr L and we both agreed that we thought it was a little too much for a spot to go completely under to get it removed but we decided we would try to ask Baba.

His response was that he didn’t want to go to sleep he wanted to wait until he was six. Well his actual response was, “I am not tired yet, I will wait until I am sick” bless him not sure he totally understands. But he doesn’t want it off straight away so currently that is what we are doing.

We will wait till he is six, unless of course something happens in the meantime!
