Toilet Training #2
So we are still in the throws of toilet training, and it is hard work!
I think Baba is doing as well as he can be doing to be honest but I find it really stressful, even more so when Mr L is around. He seems to make the whole process even more stressful. I am not really sure why but I just know that he does.
Baba is a star at home, he gets himself up and goes on his potty, we have all but stopped all accidents at home and has been a complete and utter star.
However it is outside that is the problem, we went out on Saturday and we just had accident after accident after accident. The problem is and I am not sure whether I have done wrong here, is that because the potty is so accessible at home, he doesn’t really ask. Sometimes he will shout that he needs a wee, but generally he just gets on the toilet sits down and does his business.
So when we are out he doesn’t ask. Trust me it is not lack of asking for us either, we constantly ask him and we just got “no I’m fine” and we do take him to toilet regardless, but if he has said no that is usually met with a complete meltdown that he doesn’t want to go.
We are stumped and really confused, last weekend when we went out all weekend, I admit we put him back in pull ups and it confused the hell out of him. So I think we have to remain down the pants only route. But am not sure how to get him to ask?
So I am sending out a please help request to all those you have started and won the war on toilet training are we doing anything wrong? What would your advice be? Or am I just stressing about nothing?
Take a travel potty which you can have in plain sight? Good luck
Thanks we take his potty with us that he can see and we tell him it is there, its just learning isn’t it he will get there xx
I wouldn’t worry that you’re getting stressed over nothing, potty training is stressful, but having said that, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong.
We started biggest boy out with the potty downstairs and the toilet upstairs but, like you said, he wasn’t asking to go, so we moved the potty up to the bathroom and dealt with the accidents until he remembered to ask and he now gets there on time.
We’ve got a travel potty for when we’re out, but still keep asking him if he needs to go.
I think you’re doing great considering Baba is so young – we had several failed attempts before this one and biggest boy is three!

Hang on in there! He WILL get it eventually! I think perhaps moving the potty up to the bathroom so he has to GO to the toilet might help! We used the sticker chart thing quite successfully and LM recognises when he has to wee and asks to go to the bathroom won’t go by himself yet) also going longer between wees and we even went out on a longish car journey yesterday with no accidents! But still hasn’t got the poo’s yet – just won’t do it on the toilet at all 🙁 Good luck!
Baba is fab with the poos, he just goes and gets so excited that he has been. So I suppose we all have out hurdles with it good luck your end too xx
Oh and one piece of advice I was given – once you start don’t stop! (pull-ups at night are fine until he learns to wake up and go for a pee if he needs to…) As you said – putting the pull-ups on during the day probably confused him a little 🙂 x
We are living by that as well not to stop now! xx
