Taking Boo Swimming

Today I took Boo swimming, his daddy and big brother are on Cub camp and he has been asking all week if he can go swimming, since we put up the paddling pool last week actually.

He loves the water but hasn’t been swimming a lot really in his life.

When BB was little he was registered in a baby swimming class as soon as he was able to be, and to be honest I wouldn’t have booked Boo in that early anyway as it completely freaked BB out about swimming and water, and meant that he shied away from the water for a lot of years and didn’t actually start swimming until he was seven.

But that wasn’t the only reason Boo was never taken swimming.

The biggest reason was his skin.

We did try a couple of times, but every time, his skin really flared up and we put it down to the chlorine. The doctor said there were options, one being to cover his skin in Vaseline before he swam so he had a barrier.

To be honest I never did it!

We just didn’t overly take him swimming, he went maybe once or twice a year and that was it.

Since we have been using Tropic his skin as you all know has got completely clear, and I knew he was desperate to swim.

So knowing that I have the equipment, so to speak with Tropic products (more in another post) I was confident to take him in the pool, and am confident to do it regularly now.

So off we went and as soon as we arrived, he clocked the Batman armbands, and the goggles, to be honest we didn’t overly use armbands with BB but Boo is a different child, he jumps everywhere he has to have something on him at all times as he is a live wire.

So as they were Batman, and as he was so excited to go I relented and let him have both of them.

And I am glad that I did!

He was a completely different child.

He can be clingy in the water because he isn’t confident.

Today it was like taking a different child in the water, he was happy, laughing and swimming.

As soon as he realised the armbands helped him to float, he let go off me and was moving around.

Kicking his legs, moving his arms, blowing bubbles in the water, and putting his face in the water.

He is certainly ready to be in the water more regularly.

And is ready to be swimming.

And he is eager to be swimming.

And I am so pleased that I did take the plunge and buy the armbands and goggles.

And now I am looking forward to going swimming as a family a lot more over the summer!
