Starting Big School!
Last Thursday Baba started big school!
He was so excited where as I was worried, I was really quiet when I started school and only lasted a week before I decided I didn’t want to go anymore and it resulted in being pulled of the railings a few times! It wasn’t enjoyable that is for sure!
Baba has been ready for a long time to go to school, and being an October baby he could have probably gone a while ago! But with only one intake it was set that he was going this September and that was his only option.
He couldn’t sleep the night before, he was so excited about starting his new venture!
When he finally got to sleep I went into his room, and watched him sleep. Our little boy who started the world in such a tiny way, suddenly seemed this big huge boy!
In his 4 years and 11 months I have only ever spent two full 24 hour periods away from him, yes he has been to stay at Nannies and Aunties lots but only ever for one night so I have seen him in the morning and the next afternoon/evening, apart from these two days. Suddenly he was off into some elses hands for 6.5 hours five days of the week.
It was and still is such a massive change, one that I am not sure you can ever prepare yourself for. It wasn’t the thought that he was going into big school, it wasn’t the thought that he was growing up. It was and is the thought that this is it!
When Baba finishes this journey he will be an adult! He will be at least 16 if not older! Probably 18 the way education is going, and that is his childhood!
He is now in the system, the system of getting up everyday, learning, being taught and having set times and set holidays throughout the year. And this is it for the next 11, 12, 13 or longer years!
That is the thought that scared me the most!
How quickly the last five years have gone scare me, it is only double that time and we will be coming to the end of the school journey and then my baby boy really will not be a baby at all!
It worries me how fast this is all happening!
How quick he is changing!
How quick he growing!
How old he is getting!
But at the same time I am so grateful and proud!
Proud, that he is strong-willed, (it is not always easy) he has a strong argumentative streak, one that reminds me of my sister, but I am pleased that he knows his own mind, and he wont be lead! He will follow the crowd to an extent but he is happy to go on a solo journey doing what he planned in the first place.
He is social, and loves people, he loves learning, he loves exploring, and he loves experimenting! His thirst for knowledge is huge and I am so proud for the way he is taking on the learning aspect of school.
He is confident, not too confident but confident enough to walk into a classroom, where he literally knows no one and still have the ability to make friends, something that I am in awe of as it is something that I have never been able to do.
He is a strong personality, a loving personality and a social personality and all my worries last Wednesday have really been taken away as the week has passed on. Baba has loved every moment of his first week at school.
He has made friends, he has been polite, he has coped with learning and all the things that I have worried about he has been fine with.
He has even managed to sleep unlike what he was doing this time last week! And he has managed to be ready and get sorted every day before we need to be ready for school!
So here’s to the rest of our school journey I am sure we will have some ups and downs! But I hope more ups and downs! And for now we will just see how this year goes before I start worrying about all the other years!

Wow, that HAS gone quick! Your fears are exactly the same as mine – treadmill, until adulthood. How fast these early years have gone. Still, it’s exciting for them and I’m sure Baba will absolutely thrive! It’s you who will find it harder. And this time next September, it will be my September baby starting big school *eek* xXx
It has gone far too quick! It really really has. it’s scary and that is exactly it a treadmill to adulthood. And I have this other silly fear, if he stays in school until he is 18 say his Daddy and I got together when he was 19 and that’s it no more Mother needed! How scary is that! xx
