Some Days It’s Just Better To Be A Little Slower

I read this today and it got me thinking…

Life is hectic at the best of times in our house, with one full time worker, one part time business owner, part time writer, and part time student. A two year old, being mum and dad, dog owner, rabbit owners and being in a relationship we barely get time to breath some days.

At the moment it is even more busy than usual. I am making review products, writing more, running this blog, and the business. Marketing, and planning for the business as well as all the usually day to day things. We have lots of things coming up with engagement parties,  hen parties, weddings, Cybermummy with thanks to my lovely sponsors Baby Wiggles, and the end of term school stuff, we have sports days and parties that is fancy dress to sort out.

And to top it all off this week I have a post op dad, and a sick mum that I am running back and forth too every other day with more supplies!

I feel at times that I am never get to do the things that I want. Some days go by in a blur of work, planning and organising for another day! I look at Baba at times and wonder what I have actually done with him all day. This upsets me because we decided I would work from home to spend time with him, but sometimes, all I seem to do is work. The age old problem of never actually shutting the door.

So I have made a decision even though I am busier than usual I have decided to make a difference with this. Yes it does mean that I am up later some days, and that I things have to be put aside, the things that I would like to do. Like sort the photos out, tidy the house a little more! But I have made the conscious decision to do things with Baba, and with Mr L it is on my 101 things in 1001 days list, and yes I am still working on that. But I am consciously trying to put the phone on silent and turn the computer off for a little time everyday. And I really try to leave the computer alone completely at weekends, it does mean that I am busy when I am working. That can be stressful but at the moment I don’t mind that stress when it means that I have this uninterrupted time with my family.

We get to do things as a family and have fun and enjoy ourselves. Yesterday Baba and I got out Snakes and Ladders and we had a go at teaching him to turn take and play his first ever board game. He loved it, it is a giant game, which makes it even more fun. But he was fascinated about the act of going down the snakes and climbing up the ladders. To be honest he thrashed me, must be beginners luck! I was on number eight after hitting every snake possible and he was up the top after a couple of ladder climbs, he thought this was fantastic and it was so lovely to see that he enjoyed it. He loved the one to one time, he loved the counting of where to move his “button” he loved rolling the dice and counting the spots on the dice and was so excited to tell Mr L what he was doing when he got home.

Today we had more fun before he went to Nannies, for Christmas he got an interactive DVD and book of Disney films. It comes with a huge remote with shapes on and you match the movies to the shapes, find words beginning with letters, have bits of the stories read out to you and has sing a long songs on the DVD as well. Baba loved this, we have tried it before but he really has been too young for it before. Now he is just the right age, he quickly understood that he had to match the shapes on the TV with the shapes on the remote and even though he still needs a lot of help, especially with the letters and the reading part (he is only 2) it is something that he really enjoyed doing. We sat on the floor for nearly an hour doing this first thing this morning, and do you know why because I didn’t turn the computer on! Amazing what you can do when you aren’t distracted!

I am liking this life at a little slower pace, I am loving spending one to one time with Baba and now need to work on achieving it with Mr L as well. I don’t think we can have a set routine in our house, we are constantly changing out routines. Mainly because I do work for myself and the amount of work I do varies on deadlines, orders and all the background stuff that I have to do! But I am loving having a little slot in the day where everything is off except family time!
