And We Are Done

So Friday was the day we did our 10 mile walk and we have been recovering ever since.

The day was a complete and utter wash out, it wasn’t a little rain we had torrential rain, all day! To say that Mr L and I were a little worried was an understatement, we really didn’t want to be walking around in that kind of rain. So we sat reluctantly hoping and praying that it would stop.

Mr L had a sleep, and I had a rest on the sofa and then it got to 10pm and we started to get ready, we went over to my parents and collected a pile of waterproofs ready to tackle the rain.

By the time we got to the leisure centre the rain was disappearing! We had checked the weather and it had said that it would be cloudy over night and it seemed to be right!

We registered collected our bright yellow t-shirts and our fruit and water, and waited to start. Before we could start walking we had a Zumba warm up. I have never done Zumba before and loved it, will be looking for a class near me to continue doing that it was great fun I loved it.

After the warm up we were off! The first four miles were a breeze, we had a lovely long walk along a straight path, that I have never been down, and it was dry! A couple of slight spits but that was all! We got to the first pit stop feeling like we had really cracked the back of it!

Then it started to drag, Mr L got blisters and really struggled as his feet were killing, at the 6 mile pit stop we had a long sit down while he plastered up his feet and was ready to go again. The rest of the walk we did at a slower pace and were happy just to walk it at our own level. We told the others we were walking with to go off and we would meet them at the end as my hip had started to play up and I was better walking steady but slow.

This method worked until the 7th mile I was really starting to feel the pain then, and had got a little slower. I could feel my legs and the top of my left leg was agony but I was determined I would finish the walk.

We reached the 8th mile and I had developed a limp as the top of my leg was completely cramped! I was in agony and Mr L was the one that kept me going. This pain continued until the 9th mile when I was asked whether I could continue and I refused to give up. So we carried on regardless just a little slower than before, just after the beginning of the 9th mile, my right leg started to cramp the same as my left and I admit I was in agony. I started to cry and really didn’t think I could walk the last bit, but Mr L kept on at me and really pulled me along the last stretch.

We finally completed the walk at 4.23am starting at midnight, with really sore legs, and bleeding feet. But we did it. We didn’t stay around for a massage or danish! I think if anyone tried to touch my legs at that point I may have slapped them I was in that much pain. We made the final walk to the car and managed to get into the front seat.

That drive home was agony. I couldn’t get comfortable any way that I sat, if it wasn’t my legs it was my hip hurting and I was in agony. Getting out the other end was an almost impossibility but I managed it eventually. I did say to Mr L that I thought I would be sleeping downstairs as I wasn’t sure I would make the stairs, that very nearly happened. I had to crawl up the stairs to get to bed.

Saturday was painful, I couldn’t sleep well and was in agony all day. Lots of painkillers were taken on Saturday to try to take the edge of the pain, Sunday wasn’t much better. The pain had moved to my hip only but it was just as painful, and walking for a long period stuffed my hip for the rest of the day!

Yesterday the pain had suddenly gone, I am still really tired. And have lots of catching up to do at home, three days out has lead to carnage! But you know what we did it! And we raised £185.00 which I am so pleased about so thank you to all who sponsored us!
