Sleep Walking, Sleep Talking

Yesterday Baba was quiet, but due to no more spots appearing we decided to get out of the house for a little while. Hoping that it may actually make him a little better, and feel a bit more lively.

It did seem to work. He seemed to be more with it and really enjoyed being out of the house, and he ate, which he hadn’t actually done all day so that was brilliant.

He did however fall asleep about 5.45pm just as we were getting back into our town. We got home and Mr L was already home so he collected Baba from the car and carried him onto the sofa as we both thought that he would wake up quite quickly. It got to 8pm and he was still fast asleep, so I carried him upstairs and put him into bed and he didn’t even stir. Mr L and I were shocked we were expecting him to wake up when he was moved but he was out for the count. I walked down the stairs concerned with what time I was going to be woken up this morning, expecting him to be up at 5am as he had had so much sleep.

We settled down to a night that was quiet and we were both up. I was sat trying my hardest to sort out the computer (a whole other post in itself) and Mr L was watching TV. All was silent upstairs until about 10pm when we started to hear some coughing.

The coughing carried on, and Mr L decided to go and check on Baba, when I started to hear some pattering of feet upstairs. I then suddenly heard Baba saying “sorry” and Mr L asking him why he was saying sorry. I went upstairs as well and Baba was back in his bed and was incredibly upset, hiding his head under the covers and crying, he attempted to hit out at Mr L and then he started to calm down.

Mr L said that he was sleep walking, and talking in his sleep, and he seemed to have woken up got scared and then started to get upset. Once he was fully awake he seemed ok all be it a little disoriented and not really with it. So Mr L said he could sleep in our bed with him for a little while and Baba seemed happy with that. I cam back downstairs and it didn’t take long before it was all quiet again upstairs.

Baba hasn’t slept walked for a long time, we went through an episode of it when he was about two years old, but he seemed to have stopped. But that is obviously not the case. I hate him sleep walking, it really scares me. We have a gate at the top of the stairs to stop Tito getting into the bedrooms, but even with that there it still scares me what Baba could do. But more than that the thing that scares me is the complete and utter confusion and upset that it causes Baba when he wakes up, while still walking, which he does seem to do occasionally. His little face looks so confused bless him and it is really scary.

Do you have experience of sleep walking at 3 years? What did or do you do?

  • My boys haven’t slept walked they do have nightmares where the scream and hit out even though they are fully asleep. I think all you can do is reassure him and put him back to bed. Maybe try talking to him during the day and seeing if he tells you wan’t upsetting or bothering him and talking it through. Hugs I know this is so difficult. x
