Should We Shop Local?

A couple of weeks ago I went to the market to buy our fruit and veg, and we got loads for the price, and the amount and the quality of the fruit and veg was great, lasting us for ages and tasting so much better than we get from the supermarkets.

I went back again today. The market was full today, and there were loads of things available. Eventually Boo and I came home with seven full bags of fruit and veg, including bananas, apples, nectarines, strawberries, grapes and oranges. Our veg included potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms, parsnips, red onions and salad stuff lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber. All of this came to less than £20 and filled up our fruit bowl and where I store the veg.

Our kitchen is bursting at the seam with fruit and veg.

We have a lot of stuff in the cupboards with regards to tins and stuff but our biggest thing that we need to buy this week is meat.

So I am wondering whether to hit the big supermarket or to try our local butchers.

We have two butchers, I have never really shopped in either, always hitting the big supermarkets to get all of our food. But now we don’t have to get any fruit and veg, and because we are trying to spend a bit more wisely due to the wedding I am wondering whether it would be a better option to go to the butchers, and whether it would be more cost-effective. I am guessing that the meat would be better, would taste better, and would probably be a lot better for us. It would fall more in line with our clean eating plan. And I am hoping it would be more cost-effective to go to the butcher and that we would get more for our money and better quality.

Do you shop local or like me go into all the big supermarkets?
