School Is Out – What A Difference A Year Makes
So school is finally over, and the summer is upon us.
It has been a manic few days to be honest as we have been enjoying the sun and lay ins, and being able to stay up later with Mr L as there is no need to get up early in the mornings.
It wasn’t until this last week of term that I sat and watched Baba one morning.
Eating his breakfast, putting his stuff away getting his clothes, and putting them all on by himself including his shoes and I realised how much he has grown in one year.
When we started school he was still four, but was so excited.
However two years at preschool still had not got him in a routine of having breakfast, it was something that we never really managed. And to be honest it was a battle. I knew he had to eat, I knew he would be hungry but there was nothing I could do to get him to eat. We started the beginning of the year having sandwiches for breakfast, and over the year have finally got him into a routine of eating breakfast. He will now have anything from a cheese spread sandwich, toast, or even cereal a thing unheard of this time last year.
When he started school a year ago, he was still learning to get himself dressed. He could do t-shirts and shorts with some help. But he struggled with anything else. It took a long time for him to learn to get his socks on, they are a complicated piece of clothing but after a lot of patience we finally got there, and with the bonus of velcro he managed to learn his shoes really quickly. When he started school I was dressing him everyday, but by December when Boo was born Baba was skilled at getting himself dressed every morning. It used to take a lot of time, and we would have to start really early but as the months have moved on he has got quicker and quicker!
Academically he has obviously developed massively but it isn’t always about the academic stuff. Baba has developed in every way.
He started the year as a toddler eager for school.
He’s ended the year as a child a proper little boy.
He is cheeky, he’s developed quite an attitude, not one that many see apart from Mr L and I thankfully, but he has also enhanced his charm, and can completely sweeten anyone he meets. He loves to learn, and he tests Mr L and I with the questions he asks already.
He has grown, he is a happy intelligent boy and he no longer a baby.
He is a proper cheeky, fun-loving, hilarious boy.
I love his quirky little ways and his funny little sayings, and he does make laugh most days as well as tear my hair out. But we are so very proud of him in his first year at school. There were no issues he adapted totally and he really could not be enjoying it more if we tried.
