Our Favourite Time Of Year
We are all winter babies in our house, and Autumn is certainly one of our favourite seasons.
I love the cold, yes it does mean we get more colds, and we get poorly but it really doesn’t put me off.
I love the frost in the morning, the glistening spider webs, and the fun that comes with drawing pictures in the frost on the car while you are defrosting the windows.
Since Baba has started school, one of our favourite moments in the day is sitting in the car with the heating on, a blanket over our legs watching the frost disappear of the windows, there are some great stories you can make up as you are watching the shapes form and disappear. Baba loves it, I love it and it makes the school run so interesting.
Walking the dogs in the autumn is fun. The changing colours, the marble coloured leaves, the crunching of the leaves under your feet, and the running and rolling of the dogs in the leaf piles that are scattered around the ground. It is a magical feeling, and really does get you in the spirit for the winter coming.
Autumn brings so many things to our country and we are lucky as we are surrounded by trees, fields and all the wonderful wildlife that comes with Autumn.
Baba loves looking for the new birds, we get a massive selection in our hedges throughout the Autumn and you can hear them as soon as you wake in the morning and giving their evening song as the dark nights set in. He loves watching them going in and out of the hedges and seeing how they change over the little time they are here.
We see lots of squirrels over at my mum’s house, and we are known to stand very still watching them climb the trees and seeing how long we can see them for. They are so busy at this time of the year and you see them running up and down regularly. Baba is at that great age where all of this is completely magical and he loves finding out about the animals and what they are doing, and how they get ready to hibernate.
He is desperate to see some hedgehogs this year as it is something that he has never seen in the flesh and he is completely fascinated by them. It would be his dream to be having a holiday at this time of year in a cabin in the middle of the woods and nature. A place that he could see everything and learn about all the nature around him, somewhere like Center Parcs would be his ideal location.
It is a dream that we all have and one that we will make a reality one day. But for now I think we will get cracking on a fantastic bug hotel for our garden to see what animals we can attract!
