Money Does Grow on Trees Campaign
Last year for the first time we attempted to start a vegetable patch.
We didn’t do that well I will be honest, but Baba developed a love of garden and asked that we did it again this year. I will be honest it is something that I wanted to carry on with, I truly believe that growing our own vegetables will help us to save money on our weekly shop and it is not just me that believes it. Debt Free Direct also believe the same and have challenged some bloggers to grow our own vegetables and see if we save money when we harvest them later in the year.
We decided to increase our patch this year, and had already brought Baba a greenhouse, before this campaign started. To increase what we grew last year we decided that this year we would include herbs, it is something that we do buy but never have any to hand and it is something I have always wanted a thriving herb garden.
We received a great collection of items to grow this year, and Baba could not wait to get started. We tried to make sure we got a good selection of all the things that we eat and things that Baba loves as well, as there really isn’t anything better than eating things you have grown yourself. We made it a family affair, as the garden really is something for Baba and we let him help with the choices, we eventually decided on Strawberries, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Sweet Peppers, Pumpkins, Lettuce, Carrots, and Broccoli. We then went into our herb garden and decided on Thyme, Basil, Parsley, Cress, Coriander, and Chives.
We also got a few trays and some compost to get everything growing.
Baba then spent the afternoon with Nanny and I planting and sowing his seeds. He loves the planting of the seeds and was getting out the markers so we knew what was being planted where. Within a few hours his greenhouse was alive with various plants in.
We have managed to fill up the vegetable patch as well, with the potatoes, lettuce, carrots and broccoli.
We have added to Baba’s strawberry collection, the boy will do anything for strawberries.
We had a great day getting everything planted, and now Baba is out there checking on his plants and seeing how they are going. He literally can not wait to get them all harvested.
Disclosure: We were provided with seeds, compost and some gardening trays to participate in this campaign and received no other compensation. All of the opinions expressed in this post are my true own opinions and have not been influenced by the compensation I have received.
