Coaster Making

This weekend I realised I needed some coasters for the little table that we have moved from the top of the house to the lounge, as when you put drinks on it, it marks.

I never like coasters when I buy them so I thought I would attempt to make them I was sure I had seen a pattern in my knitting book for coasters and had four small balls of wool that would be lovely for coasters.

When I looked there was a pattern but not one that I liked so I decided to attempt to do my own.

It isn’t a complicated pattern at all.

I have this wool from Aldi that I brought a while ago and 5.5 needles.

I started with 16 stitches and the first row I knit, purl, knit until the end. The second row I purl, knit, purl until the end. And this was the basis for the pattern. In total the coasters have 26 rows to make them a square size and they are just over 4 inches square.

It really is that simple.

But I love them, so far I have made three and think I will get about 12 out of the wool that I have, and I am going to use them in the lounge and the kitchen so that they are the same across the downstairs and we have enough to cover everyone when we do birthdays and Christmas.
