Boo’s Big Boy Bed

13 days ago Boo had the biggest change for him since he was born.

After 18 months, of living in our room, and 17 months of sleeping in his cot he moved.

He moved into his big boy bed and he moved into Baba’s room.

It was a move we have been talking about for a while but one that we never really made much effort to actually do. Mainly because we have so many other things going on in the house, and actually it was a really big move. It wasn’t just moving Boo, it was also rearranging the whole of Baba’s room.

Baba is six and has always had his own room, and there were lots of things that an 18 month old should not get their hands on. Lots of little pieces of things that he could pick up and choke on, so it all needed a massive clear out. Baba’s Lego is something that has needed sorting for a long time, it had got in a massive mess and had overtaken most of his room, so I decided to use the move of Boo as an opportunity to sort out all of Baba’s Lego as well.

A job that literally took three days.

It was a massive job, and I will talk about it more in another blog post, but needless to say all of his Lego is now in boxes that can’t be got into that easy and is all stored away safe from little hands.

I also used the time to sort out all of the junk, and the rubbish and the plastic toys that children seem to collect, along with the sticks and the random pieces of paper that six-year olds seem to collect.

After a couple of days I finally managed to sort the room out, of the clutter and the things that were unsafe for Boo and on the Friday night he moved into his new bed and his new room.

Over the past few days we have had a few falls out of bed, a lot of chatting, shouting and giggling and many an early morning.

Bedtimes are taking longer as Boo thinks they are great fun but once he is asleep, he is very good, he isn’t a great mover in his sleep and he does stay in his bed for the night, but our days have got a lot longer. Mainly because when Boo is awake we are all awake, not one morning have we slept to our alarm since he moved into his bed every day we are up at least half an hour before the alarm has gone off. Usually the house is cleaned, dinner is cooked, dogs are walked and the washing is out all before we leave for school. So we are getting more done. But it isn’t that great for our tiredness levels, but it is a small sacrifice to have to deal with as Boo generally really loves his bed and we have been lucky with moving him into his own room with Baba, there hasn’t really been any issues at all.

And we can finally get our room back and have no more cots in the house.

The end of an era! It will soon be gone, going to its new home on Father’s day and I am sure it will be just as loved as Boo loved it.
