The Gallery – Grandparents

This is my mum’s dad, the only grandparent I don’t remember. I vaguely remember my dad’s dad he died when I was three, but I really only grew up with my Nanny and Granny. Both living until I was well into my twenty’s.

Mum’s dad died when I was 11 months old, it makes me sad that I literally have no memory of him at all. This picture was taken at Mum and Dad’s wedding and until a few years ago it was the only picture I had ever seen of him. When I was born he was already poorly and there aren’t any pictures of him with me as far as I know. But I have recently seen other pictures of him and I was shocked.

He was really really tall! Something that I never ever imagined. I always just thought he was average height, not a tall man, but I suppose you can’t tell that from a person sitting down. Grandad was born in 1900 I find that so fascinating for someone that loves a bit of family history I am literally fascinated that he saw so many things happen not dying to the end of 1981 a lot happened in those 81 years and I am sure that he had some serious stories to tell, ones that I unfortunately never got to hear.

I know that Grandad worked on the stations and was in the last selection of workers for our local station, before it closed down and we have never had a station before. Its these little things that make him real to me.

I would love to have memories of him I have a few stories that people have told me, and they are great but they are never as good as real memories and he looks like he was such a character! I love that Baba has all of his grandparents and a couple of great grandparents on his dad’s side. He is close to them all and has a special bond with all of them, he is making memories everyday with his grandparents and I love to see them happening! I hope that he remembers them forever as there is nothing as special as your grandparents!

This post was done for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers the theme being Grandparents. Do pop over for a look at the other entries.
