Sorting, And Decluttering

This has been my life since Christmas, I have methodically been going through the house and sorting through things. We have sorted toys, clothes, (which is an ongoing project with Baba) and been going through each room and sorting and decluttering as we go.

I have blitzed the kitchen cleaning down all the cupboards, and walls. I have completely reorganised my craft area so that I can get the business up and running. We have been sorting out our clothes and vacuum packing things that we can’t get into, but stuff we should be able to get into! So that it can be brought out for when we are smaller and have lost that bit of weight!

The biggest problem in our house for a long time has been the office, it has just been a dumping ground for ages. A place where if we didn’t know where it should go it went in there. It was a total mess and has taken me days, even weeks to get sorted. Just to clear the rubbish took two days in there. I nearly filled the recycling bin with the amount of rubbish that had just been dumped in there.

I have sorted through all the Avon stuff and put it away. (I feel a lot happier about this now) I have made space for Mr L’s business stuff and space for my writing stuff, we have gone through and put away all the finance stuff, and I think I have actually sorted a system. I have one folder where all of this years letters go into and all previous years have been divided into folders and put on the shelves, everything is in date order. I know a bit excessive but this is the stuff that means I can sleep at night people. It keeps me happy.

I have now managed to comply a list of when things need to be paid in a month, and how much is being paid. So that list will be transferred to the diary and calender so that we can keep on top of the finances. I feel much better. Everything is now organised.

I also have space in the office for all of my family tree stuff that before now has just been hanging around in a box with no where to live really. But now it has a nice space on the shelf so hopefully I shall be able to do a bit more work on this in the future. I am so happy about this I love working on my family tree, but it is something that I haven’t been able to do for such a long time because I just have not had the space! But now I do, exciting!

So I have a load of washing to do today and then this evening it is all about the ironing! Once that is done I shall no longer be chasing everything will be up to date, and then the trick is to keep on top of it all! So any of you have any tips for how to prevent myself from this happening again. It has taken me nearly four years to get this place sorted. So I really don’t want to go and get it all messed up again! So all tips will be appreciated.

  • How jealous am I? I seriously need to go through all my stuff. We do it about once a year, how ever we are moving in the 6 weeks so things aren’t getting done properly we are just throwing stuff into boxes when it should theoretically the perfect time for us to do it.

  • Hi, thanks for popping by my blog :-). Wow you have been busy and sound super organised now! I think sorting paperwork out and stuff is really time consuming and trying to find a filing system that works and enables you to find things again is another matter!

As for tidying, I just try and do a little bit every day as I go along, so keep on top of the pile of washing so it doesn’t overflow, tidy up as you go along in the kitchen, have even cleaned the bath whilst in the shower, kill 2 birds with one stone! But like you had I have stuff to do that I keep putting off – clearing out my husbands side of the wardrobe, as he makes excuses every time, general sort out of the flat and the windows are in dire need of a clean! Oh and I don’t iron unless I have to, so lots of stuff is hung up to dry and mostly the creases drop out. So when my linen trousers come out in the summer the iron doesn’t know what’s hit it! and the ironing board creaks x

    • Haha that did make me laugh about the ironing board creaking and the iron not knowing what has hit it! I never used to iron, but unfortunately Baba’s clothes look awful not ironed so I know have to iron xx

  • Well done you! We moved into our house four years ago then had two lots of building work done and Baby Badger came along. The result is that we’ve got three rooms that are effectively dumping grounds and I’m desperate to sort them out!

  • I have just done the same and gone through the painful process of ebaying my rubbish!

I also discovered my pre pregancy wardrobe and even found a couple of bits that fit! the rest have been hidden again!

    xxx

  • That’s fab….you’ve worked so hard at getting it all done!!! I shall save all my crap for when you come and visit and let you organise it 😉 Lol xx

  • Well done you!

I’m in the process of trying to get things done. I’m currently working through the mountain of clothes and toys Freyja has that don’t fit/she doesn’t play with – slowly trying to put them all on eBay apart from the stuff I’ll use again.

I keep on top of the finances with a filing cabinet and Microsoft Money – it’s not the best program out there I don’t think, but it keeps all of our in/ourgoings in order. We don’t need to worry about it really with that. And I don’t think you’re excessive having it all in date order – that’s just sensible and easy to refer back to if you need to.

We’ve been living in this house for almost a year now and it’s still not sorted. I am going to try to make conscious effort to sort it though. I hate clutter!

Well done on you doing so much xxx

    • Thank you, I am going to have a look at Microsoft Money never used that before. That is what I need something like that.

Good luck with Freyja’s toys and clothes that is an ongoing battle in our house Baba has so many it is silly xxx
