Remembrance Sunday

We have always brought poppies in our house.

My Great Uncle served in the Second World War, and we have always been very proud of it, as our children are now, they love hearing his tales about being on the ships while in the Navy. It is something that we have always done.

We buy a poppy for all of us and have always attempted to get one on Baba, which isn’t the easiest to do.

Last year, unfortunately, we had a face and a name to go with our poppies, when Mr’s best friend and Baba’s Uncle was killed in Afghanistan was killed at war in October last year. Baba asked lots of questions about poppies last year, and he really wanted to wear one for his Uncle.

This year he was even more determined to have his poppy and to wear it.

It was also the first year we took him to an actual Remembrance Service.

Yesterday a plaque was put on our towns war memorial for his Uncle and we went for the first time to see the unveiling of the plaque and for Baba to be involved in a service.

He did very well, it was a long service, he is five years old and trying to explain to him to be quiet is always a hard thing, he was also cold, but he did very well and stood and listened and took it all in.

He is super proud of his Uncle and today he has gone into school with pictures, all ready to do a talk about his Uncle. It is something he wanted to do, his teacher asked him and he said yes.

Yesterday he picked the things he wanted to take and today he told me all the things that he wanted to say to his class.

“My Uncle was a Marine. I loved him, he went off to war and fought bad guys to make our lives better. He didn’t come home last time a bad guy got him. We miss him lots and will always love him and we wear our poppies so everyone remembers him.”

He says it all with so much pride, and we are both so proud of him, and how he copes with these things we really couldn’t ask for more.
