Pre School
Baba goes to a lovely little pre school, in a local village. Actually the village that my dad is from, and some of my uncles and cousins still live in.
It is a gorgeous place, the staff are lovely, the school is lovely and Baba adores the place. He last went last Monday before his operation, and today was the first time that he went since his operation. He ran in there straight to the computer with his Key-worker and was so happy to be back.
The pre school opens every morning, has two lunch time clubs and opens for two afternoons so it a busy little place.
The preschool is a charity and it is struggling financially. We have all had letters asking for help in joining the committee and ideas for fundraising. Mr L and I have raked our brains and we have come up with a couple of ideas. We have thought about selling some leaving albums to parents, having pictures of the children in key-rings and selling them, but we need some big ideas. So I am sending out a SOS to all you of you out there to see if any of you have some great ideas for fundraising for a children’s pre school. I am open to any ideas and anything will help. So what have you been to that has worked in the past? Or what ideas do you have?

A fete or bazaar?
Your ideas are good, but usually all the fundraising ideas end up just being aimed at the parents and parents contribute out of duty (I know from experience!!). One or two ideas like the leaving albums are fine, but after that it all gets a bit too much if ever week some raffle tickets come home etc. You need to get the whole local community involved.
Could you do a charity auction? Try and get some donated prizes and and either run it for a week or so, or hold an auction afternoon or something?
Instead of asking for money from parents could you ask for items to list on eBay, with all funds going to the preschool? Someone migh have a hidden gem in their attic that they can’t be bothered with.
I’d also be careful that you don’t come up with great ideas then get lumbered with a load of extra work – that has also happened to me and although you want to help it can get a bit much!
These are great ideas and some fantastic points that you have raised thank you so much I really appreciate that. They are trying to get a fundraising committee together so that it isn’t always the same person doing everything So we shall have to wait and see how it goes. xx

I just came across your blog through Him Up North’s twitter.
Our playschool runs an annual Spring Tea. The classes learn songs for about a month or so and then perform them for parents, grandparents and friends. Their is an auction, a kids raffle and a big raffle for a barbeque and a Wii or Playstation. We get a lot of community donations, and each family is also required to provide a donation. Last year, it made about $8000. It’s a lot of work, but totally worth the effort and it is a really enjoyable day.
