Interview!
So I got my stuff ready yesterday, and found some decent clothes and went for the interview. To say I was nervous was an understatement!
I turned up and was pleasantly surprised the little boy that I would look after was lovely, he was very gentle and from what I was told a generally happy boy. He obviously gets upset about things, and has things that he does not understand but he does say a few things and can get most things that he wants across with the few words that he can say.
She asked if I could do two days a week and I explained that on one of the days I would have to confirm childcare as at the moment it is a day that Baba is with me, we then discussed it some more and she said that if I could do one day a week and maybe a couple of Saturdays that would be fine as well. This would work in our favour I think, but I still have to work out the Saturdays that Mr L is working and isn’t.
We discussed the holidays and she said it would be fine not to worry about them, as they are away a lot or have family to stay over. That was another of my concerns if she suddenly wanted me to work two full days in the holidays that would be difficult for me to cover.
The job itself is very easy, picking the little boy up from school, which is a drive away I have to admit. I think I would be doing a couple of hours drive on the week day just picking him up, and then bringing him home and being with him so she can do things with the other child. Then later in the evening it would be feeding him, and giving him a bath. That is it. Saturdays would be going for a walk or going swimming, something like that. It is stuff that I have always done before with children so it is nothing new.
She seemed very impressed that I had so many years experience working with children on the spectrum and had said that she had never had someone like that before. I was worried that she was expecting me to create miracles but in one day that is not going to happen and she agreed that as well, thankfully!
So I have decisions to make, Mr L doesn’t want me to do it. He would really like me to pursue all the stuff I do from home. But as I have already said on here before that does not bring in money now, that is going to take time and bring money in at a later stage. We however need it now!
I am going tomorrow to help with some babysitting and I have said I shall give her a decision then. Everyone around me is thinking it is a no brainer that I should take it, and maybe I am making more of it than needs to. But it is a big decision for us a family and myself as an individual. I have not worked for anyone else for over three years, and even though Baba has been going to his Nannies while I work from home, we have always had the flexibility that if he is poorly, which you all know he has a tendency to do! That I can just cancel work and be at home with him.
We have his operation date as well, (there will be more on this later) but it is in March so I am going to be out of action for a month then while he is recovering. I told her this yesterday and she said that that was OK. I thought that she needed to know from the offset as I can’t leave him in that time we are going to have to do lots of things, to make sure his eyes make a full recovery so I couldn’t not mention it to her.
So I am having a thoughtful day today, Mr L and I did speak about it last night and I think we need to do some number crunching tonight as well and see what we come up with.
I want to make the right decision and I am feeling torn in a three ways at the moment, so I am not sure what to do!

Good luck making your decision sweetheart. I know how horrible it can be when you’ve got a project working at home that just needs time.
Hopefully this is exactly what you’ve been looking for. It sounds that way. Sorry Mr L isn’t too enthusiastic about it all.
It’s always horrible leaving your child to work again. I went back to work full time in January 2009 (Kidder was 9 months) and it was really difficult but at the time we just needed the money.
Best of luck darling x
We have done some number crunching and as the job stands at the moment there is no point doing it. I will be putting more money in the car than earning which is pointless. So the agency is talking to the mother today, see what she says xx
Wow, that’s a big decision. I can see all the pros and cons. The bottom line is: does it add to your life more than it takes away from your life? If yes, then go for it. If no, then it’s just not right this time.
Good luck x
Thank you, I really took this on board and did some serious sums, and talking with Mr L. We have gone back to the agency to clarify a few issues with the parents out before I give a final decision xx
Big decisions to make! It’s great that Mr L is on side and is so supportive of your dreams, a lot of men wouldn’t see past the extra £££ you’d bring in. Looks like you got yourself a good one there!
Good luck with whatever you decide to to, I am sure you’ll make the right decision whatever you choose
Thank you, he does have his good points thats for certain! Bless him. We are still deciding, agency is going back with our thoughts tomorrow see what the parents say then! xx
Gosh, it’s a difficult one isn’t it! If you need the money, I can’t see a way around it but it does leave lots of other stuff open to question. Do you have someone to have Baba or can you take him with you if needs be or if he’s ill? Can you start after Baba has recovered from his op? Will Mr.L look after him on a Saturday and what will you do when he’s at work? I say go for it if you can sort out the other stuff……it might be amazing xx
We have been number crunching, and trying to sort things out all night and as it stands at the moment it isn’t very viable but will see what is said tomorrow xx
Glad the interview went well. It is a big decision though, and you should do what you think is best for you and your family. After all, once the ‘home’ stuff makes money, you can give notice and quit.
Wish you and your family all the best. 🙂
Thank you I have passed on my concerns to the agency and they are speaking to them tomorrow xx
Well I’m glad the interview went ok and that they want you – congrats!! We knew they would love you! Who wouldnt!! Such a toughie.. what do you want to do? We have to do the whole number crunching thing too.. is it worth me having job and paying childcare? Might as well just wait until free nursery! I hope you find the right answer which suits you all! Much love Xx
Ah thank you, I have said no. At the moment it’s not the right time, the number crunching didn’t work the right way. xx
