Growing Up

Baba does things every day that make me stop and think that he really isn’t a little boy anymore. He has grown up a lot in the past few months, probably quicker than he should ever have had to and it has made me feel really bad that he has had to take information in and learn things that he really shouldn’t have to learn.

But in other ways he is still so young and small.

This week he made a giant leap in our eyes in growing up. My parents still live in the same house that I grew up in and when I was younger we used to all play out on the green in the front of the house, but Baba has only ever been out there with all of us and his cousins, he never really thinks to play out there he just wants to play in the back garden.

He was up my mums on Tuesday and when I arrived to meet him up there one of his little friends ran over to the car and asked where Baba was. When I explained to his little friend that Baba was at my mums house, I quickly got asked if Baba could come out to play.

My heart skipped a beat.

Baba has never been asked out to play! It was a massive thing for me, to go out and play with his friends.

I wanted to look around and see who his friend was really talking to, because my little boy isn’t big enough to be asked to go out and play!

Unfortunately I was wrong, it was all aimed at Baba, he is growing up and his friend wanted him to go out and play.

Baba was so excited when I got to my mums and told him that his friend wanted to play. But he was really confused, at first he thought that his friend was coming to Nannies house and he couldn’t understand why he was going outside. Once he realised that he was going out on the green to play he was even more excited.

I tried to hold back and let him just play I stayed in Mum’s front garden so that I could see everything that he was doing, but he still had a little freedom playing out there with his friend.

It was great to see, to know that Mum’s house still has a that little area has that freedom for Baba to play in. But I was also a little bit sad that my little baby is growing up so so fast!

  • its so bitter sweet isn’t it, how nice that your mums has that area they can play, my mums has a green in front of her house too where we used to play as children, she still lives there but now all the houses around have grown up families so there aren’t alot of young children for mine to become friends with there.

    • It is a lovely area and I have to admit mums was the same, but it just so happens that this child’s family moved in a couple of years ago. But they are the only young children up there now so it is perfect that they are the same age! x

  • It’s scary isn’t it? I remember the first time I let Keagan go out the back to play without me out there too. I kept looking out the window every few mins, but I knew he’d be there, safe and sound. It never changes as they get older, it gets different as I told my friend who has young children while as you know Keagan is nearly 14. Each time K does something that sees him growing up it feels like a huge step for me, but to him it’s nothing really! Take care Zo xx

    • I know it goes so unnoticed for them, really understanding why my mum hated me growing up so much now, being that I was the baby of the family as well! xx
