Gratitude Journal

I have written in a gratitude journal for a couple of years now.

But last year I stopped the last couple of months.

They were hard months emotionally and I didn’t really want to put anything down in my gratitude journal.

But I knew it was a good activity for my mental health.

For one writing in a gratitude journal helps to destress you, it helps you to feel calmer, and helps you to get a better perspective on things.

I have found all of these things to be true when I am doing my gratitude journal daily.

I definitely feel calmer when I write down at least three things I am grateful for during the day. It makes me feel happier at the end of the day, especially if I feel I have had a bad day, finding three things I am actually grateful for makes that day not seem as bad as I first thought it was. Giving me a different perspective on the day before I go to sleep.

Not doing it for a long time I noticed that these things had slipped. The bad days remained a bad day whatever, and I would end the day stressed, which ultimately affected my sleep and meant the next day didn’t always start of in the best way.

So as a new year started, I knew I didn’t want to make any resolutions, but I did want to start writing in my gratitude journal every day.

It just seemed the best day to restart the habit.

So last night as it was the first of the month I found my gratitude journal along with my new diary and sat down and wrote three things that I was grateful for yesterday.

It felt nice to be writing in it again. It was nice looking for three things that I was grateful for.

They weren’t three massive things.

They weren’t three amazing lightbulb moments.

They were just plain normal ordinary things.

Things that would ordinarily be easily forgotten as they were so simple and ordinary.

But things that I was grateful for and I really did feel better after I wrote them.

It is something I will definitely continue to do on a daily basis as I know it is good for me.

It is such a quick and simple thing to do that really helps with my mental wellbeing.
