Electric, Electric, Electric
We have had a few problems with our electric in the last few weeks, not just our house personally but with the road having massive power cuts. It wasn’t that long ago, that just our road in the whole estate that had a power cut and it was off for about four hours all because the fuse had gone!
Last night we had just finished our tea, when the light in the sitting room started flashing and then the power went out. We managed to find a few candles and prepared for a long night of it. It was nearly Baba’s bed time so we thought we would get him to bed and then all have an early night, as if it was going to be the same as last time we knew it would be out for hours.
Mr L went in the kitchen for something and shouted that he had got an electric shock from the kitchen sink and asked me to see if I was as well. When I went out there it was giving a bit of a bolt out that was for sure, but we had no electric. Mr L went and turned all the fuses off and went to check again and was still getting a shock!
We phoned his parents as we were concerned, we went next door and they didn’t seem to be having the same problem, but didn’t have electric. However it was only half of the road the other half all seemed to have electric it was very strange and I have to admit we were getting a little worried. Then Mr L got a very strong shock of our light switch that we could all hear in the other room. At this point we decided to call the electric company ourselves and see what was wrong, it didn’t take long for them to come over and see what the problem was. I don’t know technical electrically stuff but basically something had happened underground, a cable splitting or something which had resulted in our neutral wire being made live. I do know that that is bad.
Basically all our wires were disconnected and we were told that they were going to sort the underground problem out and then would have to come back to reconnect the wires and check that everything was ok. We were told it would be a couple of hours. So I nipped to my mum’s to charge up our phones so Mr L could use his alarm in the morning and got back about 12pm. When I spoke to the guys I was told it could be any when up to 4am so they would take our number and call us we were a priority because of Baba.
It was 5am when they called, and everything was all connected back up and all fixed. And it was a massive sigh of relief, both Mr L and I were worried last night we both thought there was something seriously wrong with our house, and both were expecting to have to leave the house last night! But luckily it wasn’t as bad as we first thought! But what a night.
