Buddy’s Operation
So last Friday this little one went down to the vets to have an operation.

He has had a lump on the left hand side at the bottom of his tummy for a while. We have been keeping a close eye on it , it moved around and looked like a fatty lump then the end of last year it grew pretty massive and the vet decided that it should be removed incase it was anything sinister.
We kept telling everyone that it was fine the vet saw him at the end of November and booked his operation for the end of January as he was still convinced it was just a fatty lump, and if he was that concerned it would have been booked far quicker.
We almost convinced ourselves too.
But there was an underlying worry. Especially as Tito our old dog ended up being put down because of stomach cancer.
There was a small chance that it could be sinister.
So we were still worried. We kept it well hidden, especially from the boys and on Friday the day was completely normal before he was taken into the vets.
Buddy isn’t a lover of the vets and that did concern me. As I knew he was going somewhere that he actually hated. But he wasn’t that bad going in. I did get a pleading look from him, but he had to go and the nurse managed to get him away with minimal fuss.
And then it was a case of waiting.
At lunch time I called and was told that the operation was all done, and that there was nothing to worry about the lump was completely fatty and nothing else. It was huge, but was completely taken out and removed.
Which was a complete relief, and the worry was completely gone.
The focus was now just about getting him through the operation recovery.
He came home with a nice medishirt on, which is basically a babygro for a dog. Which we were much happier with as I was dreading him having a cone, and Norman trying to put his head in the cone. So the shirt was a great relief as it meant he could just get on with things, although he does sometimes get his legs inside the shirt rather than out of the holes that are provided. So that has provided some amusement.
He came home with tablets and a liquid pain killer, and he has been an utter dream about taking them. He hasn’t once refused them and has just swallowed each tablet as it was given to him.
He has been an utter dream, he is being very quiet and isn’t at all bothered that he has a permanent shirt on at the moment. He occasionally runs along the sofa edge to have an itch as he has a massive area shaved area and it clearly is itching him. But apart from that he has been fine.
He had a vet checkup on Monday and they were very happy with how he has been behaving and how his wound is looking. Apart from this appointment his next appointment is to have his stitches out in a couple of weeks and until then to have a bit of a slow life.
