Boys and Bugs
You stand and stare
Looking in the holes,
Looking between the cracks
Trying to find another.
You can be there for ages,
Shouting ‘snake, snake’
As one comes out
You squeal with delight!
You start to bounce and stamp your feet.
Whoever knew you would get so excited
You shout, to whoever is near
You don’t care as long as someone else can see
You point, and scream and squeal
Your little face lights up
And you grin from ear to ear.
So excited that you have found the animals in the cracks
The snails and ants have come to say hello
To my little boy who just loves his bugs!

Wonderful poem!!! Just loved the way you expressed your thoughts 🙂
Thank you very much. He does love his bugs xx
Lovely writing, thank you. Small people are so unedited in their joys.
Thank you, they are lovely to watch when they are enjoying things aren’t they makes me smile everyday x
What an amazing post. Your take on this is so different. Well one…
Thank you that is very kind and thanks for reading I really appreciate it xx
I have one who loves then and one wwho hates them! Love it
I hate them personally, it takes a lot for me to show excitement about a bug I have to say xx
How awesome, taking the phrase literally and thinking of your son like that. So well expressed! My kids are bug lovers too. There’s nothing my daughter loves more than to put on a princess dress, grab a trowel and go digging for bugs.
Your daughter sounds like great fun xx
Typical boy! lol!
He is a typical boy thats for sure xx
I love this. Wotsit says ‘snake, snake’ everytime he sees a worm. Except in Mexico when, to my surprise (and his delight), it was a snake!
I don’t know what Baba would do if he saw an actual snake, I think he would actually wet himself with joy xx
This is fabulous! Cracks have always held a fascination for me and I thought about doing this prompt – I still might at some point. I remember stepping around and over them as a child and thinking I might fall through boardwalks on the pier!
All the best to you and your little bug hunter 🙂
Thank you that is so kind. I remember walking over cracks when I was little as they were bad luck. I had to write about it as it is so funny to watch xx
I love this! Its fun and light and is perfect for the delight of a child playing with creepy crawlies–my daughter is very much like this and I could picture that moment perfectly.
Thank you, I love watching him play with his bugs it is just so much fun for him and lovely to watch. Thanks for reading xx
Really inspired ,,love Jan xx
Thank you that is very kind x
That’s a cracker! A word of warning re. encouraging the snail fancying though…our garden’s now riddled with them as they get fed lettuce off an upturned frisbee. I sneakily throw them over the fence when my boy (and neighbours) aren’t around. 😉
Oh you see we only let him look for snails at Nannies house as they would upset our dog and rabbits that’s what we tell him anyway! Hee hee. Thanks for reading x
Aww this is lovely, so sweet and innocent! xxx
Thank you so much that is so kind xx
