A Moment
It’s 10.30am
It’s a Monday.
You woke up quiet, I put it down to tiredness.
You were quiet all morning.
Again I put it down to tiredness.
We had breakfast.
You got dressed.
I was folding washing.
You were sitting on the sofa.
Just a moment when you didn’t think anyone was watching.
You were sat in the corner.
Holding your classroom lockdown cushion.
Studying all the faces.
Sadness was in your eyes.
I looked at you and my heart missed a beat.
You looked lost in thought.
You looked so small.
So fragile.
So sad, in that moment.
You weren’t tired.
You’re missing your friends.
You’re missing your routine.
No one can explain this world to you.
No one can tell you when it will finish.
No one can tell you when life will be the same again.
When you can play with your friends again.
When you can be free once more.
No one can give you a time scale.
No one can make it all disappear.
We know it’s hard.
We know you’re sad.
We know you don’t understand it all.
But one day when this is all over we will explain it all to you.
We will help you to understand this mad world.
And you will be with your friends again.
Missing them won’t be the norm.
Until then we will be there, we will try to do the very best we can for you.
And we will look after you.
And one day we will remind you this was just a moment in time!
