One Month!

A month ago this little one came to live with us.

The month has gone fast, and it has been an interesting one. Since Buddy moved in he just seems to have settled.

He has brought out the dog side of Tito, as he has always been more of a cat than a dog. Just preferring to lay on the sofa and do not a lot. He has never really liked bones, balls or any dog toys much preferring a nice fleecy blanket to lay on. Tito has always been quiet we can count on one hand how many times he has barked, mainly at one of Mr L’s friends, but apart from that he just lies on the back of the sofa doing not a lot.

Buddy has brought him out of his shell. Mr L has always said that another dog would do Tito the world of good, and I hate to agree, but he seems to love having someone to play with. They love having walks together, and Buddy’s bed that he arrived with seems to be discarded to sleep at the top of the stairs with Tito. It is great to see Tito being a dog, and having Buddy to liven him up.

However Buddy hasn’t been all that plain sailing he is a beagle after all.

He loves to play, constantly, he is only just over a year old so totally expected. But he never wants to stop and whenever poor Tito lays down for a break he seems to have this little boy nudging him and licking him wanting him to play more and more. Tito is very good and takes so much before he lets Buddy know that enough is enough, and Buddy does take note and will then walk away.

He loves to jump and escape we have found. Downstairs needed an upgrade on the gate at the lounge door from a baby gate to a puppy gate. As the baby gate was simple and Buddy just leapt over it so that he could get into the lounge from the hall and vice versa.

We have also found that the hole in the fence panel is a lot bigger than first thought and Buddy has made a few visits, to next door, lucky we know them so well, and they really are not bothered about him having a little nose in their garden. But neither of these are majors problems and have both been fixed.

We have lost just one football, and got a little hole in a Spiderman since he has been here, to be honest that is a massive improvement on Tito. Not sure if Buddy is not as much as a chewer or whether nearly 6 years down the line of being beagle owners we have just got wise. But he is nowhere near as bad as Tito was at this age.

Buddy’s main issue is the noise he makes when anyone knocks, or enters at our door. If he knows them it is even worse and goes on for longer and longer. We have tried ignoring, and putting them behind the gate but nothing seems to work.

Today we decided to try giving Tito a treat, our little quiet one, as soon as we enter and once Buddy sees that he is getting one and he doesn’t he instantly goes quiet and sits down. This is what we want so we will continue with that for a while.

None of the teething problems are things that we weren’t expecting anyway. We after all have had a beagle for nearly six years and know the amount of destruction and chewing and mess they can make in just a few minutes.

But over all Buddy seems a lovely dog, and Tito has accepted him as one of his own straight away. He has bonded with us all including Baba and seems to have fit in as one of the family straight away. The next test is him meeting my sisters labrador and seeing how they both get on.
