It’s All Been About Board Games Today

Today has all been about the board games.

We have stepped away a little this week with regards to our lockdown learning. We haven’t done a lot of work sheets, we haven’t done a lot of writing to be honest.

But we have done a lot of memory making.

We have been making things, and adapting every day things to learning.

And it has been super interesting I have to admit.

So today when we all woke up a little tired, mainly because Boo was awake with me until gone 2am this morning, I decided that actually rather than trying to do some writing and worksheets, and stuff that would probably be met with a little resistant instead we would do something a little different.

I made the decision that actually today we would play board games.

That is exactly what we did.

Firstly we played Junior Monopoly, (I am so glad I kept this and didn’t decide to chuck it away when I had the board game cull a few months ago)

Without realising it Boo was doing Maths and we were working out Money with us all owing rent to each other, and reading all the cards, and basically playing a game with turn taking and enjoying thrashing mum! As I lost massively badly in this game.

After I got a thrashing in Monopoly we decided to have a game off Yahtzee.

This game I love and the boys love it too.

Boo loves to roll the dice, and BB loves to work out the combinations that we have managed to roll, and between them they both did maths with adding up their scores on each round.

BB won this game too, and after this we moved onto Bingo.

This game is an old game and is one of mine from my childhood, but one that is still a firm favourite in our house.

It is such a simple game, but one that is played over and over again.

Today Boo was the number caller, calling out the numbers for BB and I to find, and he was then matching the numbers to put them onto the board when he had called out the numbers.

Another massive Maths activity.

Basically the boys had a huge Maths day and didn’t even realise.

Boo feels like he has done no work today, but has done adding, money, turn taking, reading, number recognition and number matching.

And he didn’t feel like he worked at all.

I would say that is a complete win for today.

It is definitely a day that I will repeat with the boys while they are at home, as above anything else it is a great way to spend some quietly family time together.

And to me that is so important in this crazy crazy world we live in at the moment!
