Baba Starts Golf

Baba has been asking for ages to play golf, he isn’t a child really into sports, he loves bugs, art, computers and science really. He has never been a lover of football, to Mr L’s disgust. He wont sit and watch a game, he shouts about supporting Liverpool, but he really wouldn’t know any of their players.

But for some reason golf has fascinated him.

At first Mr L and I thought it was a bit of a whim, the fact that Baba felt he had to do a sport as all of his friends do, so we heard it but didn’t do a huge amount about it.

But he has been repeatedly asking. So we started to look into some lessons for him, all he does after school is Beavers and with the issue of all of his ear infections at the moment we can’t really put him into swimming lessons, so we thought we could find him golf lessons instead.

We looked around and found a great little course for him not too far from us, with just a group of 8 children and on a Saturday afternoon, which means Mr L can see him playing as well.

His first lesson was Saturday.

His little face was a picture when he was having his lesson, he was a complete novice compared to some of the other children there, not even knowing how to hold a golf club, but that didn’t faze him. He got involved and asked the teacher what to do and listened.

By the end of the lesson, he managed to hit two out of the three targets they were aiming for, had remembered all the rules for playing and had a really great time.

So yesterday he got his first set of clubs. It was something we were just going to look at but when we went to see them, they were reduced massively that we couldn’t really refuse them, they are the perfect size and a brilliant starter set for him.

He was so excited. Yesterday he went out practising with his Daddy and showed of all his set to his Grand. This morning he was up practising again, as he has put them into his bedroom, and it was the first thing he did when he woke up. He tells Boo all about them, and explains everything that he was taught on Saturday.

“You have to stand with your feet shoulder length (width) the ball has to be in the middle and you have to keep your eye on the ball at all times”

He has really taken to it, in just a couple of days and has been so excited that he is finally playing golf, it is great to see him so excited and I can not wait to see how it develops over the next 8 weeks of his course and after that.
