An Allergy to the Dentist
Since having children I have had problems with my teeth.
It is a bit of an inherited problem from my mum, and one that has been made worse by months and months of being sick while I was pregnant, and my love of sweet food.
Basically I have no enamel on my teeth.
And they are slowly getting worse and worse, every time I visit the dentist I need something else doing.
I should have seen it coming really, when I had Baba I needed to have a tooth out, when I had Rhianna I needed fillings straight after, and having Boo kind of finished off my teeth. In the 18 months since having him I have had work done every time I visit the dentist.
And it isn’t small things.
I am on my 12 or 13th filling, having had one and it falling out in a couple of months, and to be honest I have developed a fear of the dentist again, that I spent years working on and getting over every time I went.
It seems whenever I go I need injection after injection and filling after filling. The aim is to keep my teeth going as long as possible, and I am hoping that will be longer than sooner, but it has been a lot of stress and pain over the past two years.
Mainly because the last few visits to the dentist I have been really poorly after a filling. I have come home, had massive migraines, felt sick, shaky and basically really unwell. Too the point that I have had someone else with me to look after Boo as I haven’t really felt myself at all.
And it is becoming impossible, especially as the last lot of treatment I have been going back each month for the last three months before I get all my fillings done. I was really fed up and was determined to discuss other options the next time I went to the dentist.
Luckily I did discuss it with her to be honest, she was really helpful and sat and listened to what was happening each time. After some discussion it was decided that I was either having a reaction to the anaesthetic or it was actually a stress related reaction due to the needles and the whole process of having a filling. So she decided to try to do my four fillings that I needed that day without any anaesthetic, and to see how I handled it.
Well it was much better, a bit irritating but nothing like before. So it was decided to write into my notes that all my work should be started without the needles and anaesthetic unless I need it as I seem to be having an odd reaction to it all.
I walked out of the dentist a lot happier than I have done the last few months, and not in pain, or feeling giddy, and I didn’t get a headache for the rest of the day. It was like a completely different experience, and something I am so pleased I spoke up about as it was something that was really stressing me out for days before the appointment and making me ill for hours after.
