Alphabet Project – A Is For Ambulances and Antibiotics

Anyone who reads this blog will know that on Friday Boo was taken on his first ambulance ride into hospital suffering from croup.

We were in there most of the day and finally got home at two pm.

Since then Boo has battled a temperature, Saturday it was hot versus cold all day long and it was hard to keep it under control to be honest. We did manage it but it was draining, and then he developed a cough.

Not a croup cough, but a cough that sounds like he is almost choking. It’s horrible to hear and again gets worse at night. It was there on Sunday, but manageable, but we decided that another trip to the doctors was needed, as we have thought all along that Boo has a bad throat.

So off we went yesterday to see the doctor again and yes they confirmed that Boo had a sore throat, but his chest was clear and that he looked really well. We were told to keep on top of his sore throat with Nurofen and Calpol and to take him back if he got any worse.

Last night he got worse.

He whined and moaned most of the evening and by 3am he was wide awake coughing, crying, coughing and crying and this continued until 4.30am when he finally fell asleep in my arms still crying. From pain or just complete tiredness I am not really sure. I know that I tried some medicine and it really made no difference to his behaviour, all he wanted was Mummy cuddles and it got to the point where I actually thought I was going to be up all night. But he finally fell asleep and into a deep enough sleep that I could put him back into his cot.

Today I took him back to the doctors, who again examined him completely as all of the doctors have. He again agreed with everything the doctor said yesterday, but this time he felt that this could be moving to a chest infection, but he also felt that there is an infection somewhere so that the best course of action is to give Boo some antibiotics.

He has a five-day course, and if he still isn’t right after that then we have to go back and see if he needs some more.

He hasn’t had this antibiotic before and came home and took his first lot, he has to take it four times a day and I am really hoping that this time we will get on top of what ever Boo has. I think really he has what Baba and I have but because an inhaler will be pointless on him as it wont work we are having to go a different route with him to get him better.

Let’s hope this does it.
