For Christmas the boys brought me a new Pocket Domino Filofax, it is gorgeous, but I couldn’t just leave it as it was I had to make it individual. So after our holiday I set a whole day to one side to work on the pocket Filofax set up, I played, and moved things and added things and took things out. By the end of it I was and still am totally in love with the new Filofax.
I have written about my love for diaries many times, and how I was going to rejig my planners for 2016 here and here. When I got the Domino Pocket Filofax for Christmas I decided to use this as the diary that I carry around all the time with the ongoing sections for Craft Projects etc, my new notebook, which you can read about here, is being used as a food diary as I am making a huge effort this year to get on top of my food and diet. I shall blog about this another day.
Pocket Filofax Set Up
So the Domino needed a transformation for it to work for a day-to-day carried around diary.
First thing was to take out all of the address section and the to do lists that came with the Filofax, I have a lovely address book that I have at home and any numbers I need are in my mobile, it was taking up space that wasn’t needed.
The next big change was buying some more lined paper for all the sections at the back of the Filofax, I knew that I needed more than was supplied so it was easier to buy them before I started any changes in the look of the Filofax.
I have made the front of the Filofax a little hub. Inside the card holders I have four different sticky notes, so that I can use them on a day-to-day basis to stick ideas into the diary or on the lined pages, rather than having to find them when I am at home. As this Filofax is filled with information on the go as people tell me things, I have also added a card into the front covered in some washi tape so I always have it to hand if and when I need it.
Great for storing little bits of wisdom or things that I want to keep in the Filofax.
I wanted to make this Filofax functional and more me, I wanted it pretty. So I have filled the plastic cover at the front of the Filofax with some more Scrapbook cards, one that says “I love us” the other side of the plastic cover, actually has another card in that is a frame, and I will be filling that side with a photo of all of us when I can get my printer to work!
At the top of the plastic cover I have also added some paper clips that I have decorated with washi tape to make them prettier and so that I have something that I can clip receipts or coupons into the diary.
I am not a person that actually uses my ruler in a Filofax, so I decided to use it more as a book mark and put in an inspirational Scrapbook card stock and stuck this to the ruler. I find this really handy, firstly it is great to read, repeatedly throughout the day and secondly it is larger than the pages in the Filofax, so I don’t have to keep holding onto the pages, and can just find my exact week with this card, making it easy and quick to see where I am.
Each page of the diary has been decorated with three different washi tapes, alternating between pink and blue on the top of the pages and the stripes on the bottom of all of the pages. I love this as it makes the whole Filofax so unique to me, and the page edges all look pretty when the Filofax is closed.
I have also used the washi tape to highlight important dates, mainly just our family birthdays so that I can, again, easily find these pages in the diary.
As this is a pocket diary I am not writing all the birthdays in the diary instead I have them all in a section at the back, but have highlighted stars on each page a birthday is happening. Making more room for other things to be written in the diary, things that I need to see appointments etc.
I have six sections in this Filofax, and each divider has been decorated with stripy washi tape and the Scrapbooking cards I have used for the rest of the Filofax decoration.
The sections that I have are ones that I am always scribbling notes about all over the house.
CRAFT PROJECTS – This is what it says it is. If I see something and think that I want to do it but wont have the time I write it in there. I currently have a Pom-Pom Wreath, Baba and Boo Quiet Books, Boo’s Preschool Bag, and Knitting on the list. As things are done I will cross them off and if I find any ideas or inspiration that I love I will either pin it in with the paper clips or stick it down with the washi tape.
AFFIRMATIONS – This section is filling up nicely. It is full of affirmations, quotes, relaxation ideas, Boss Babe quotes and anything that strikes a cord with me when I see it.
BLOG – This is a great little section and something I have wanted to change for a while, I have a massive habit of scribbling blog ideas on backs of paper bags, stray pieces of paper and leaving them somewhere and loosing them. So this section is great. It currently has three pages paper clipped together for the 100 Things in 100 Days and has a list of other blog posts I want to write and linkies dates that I take part in sometimes. As things are blogged I cross them off so I can keep on top of what has and hasn’t been written.
PRESENTS – This is where I store all my birthdays, and anniversaries. As I said already, I have drawn a little star on the diary date that the birthday or anniversary relates to and have highlighted this in the diary section. As it is a week to view I can see when birthdays are coming up and can look in the present section to see who the birthday is and what I have written as ideas for what to buy them. That is the part of this section that I love. When I see something and like it then I include it in this section so I can be more organised for Birthdays and Christmas. I am also planning on jotting things down that Baba and Boo say they want so I can start hunting for them early rather than having a mad rush.
NOTES – For anything else really that I need to scribble down and don’t have space for.
SHOPPING – I am using this section to write down things as we need them, and then it is in my bag if we do decide to do a proper shop, or it is next to me if I do an online shop. But I am also using it to store my coupons so that they don’t accidentally get chucked out like they do in my purse.
At the back of the Filofax I have added the rest of the lined paper that I am not currently using, firstly because I don’t have anywhere else to store the paper and secondly if I run out in the Filofax I want to be able to fill it up instantly and this is the only way to manage that.
So that is my pocket Filofax set up. I adore this Filofax, and alongside my A5 Academic year planner, which I keep in the kitchen as a calendar really with all my to do lists written for each day the system is working really well.
I have to say I am wondering why I have never brought a pocket Filofax before.
