Anyone who reads this blog will know that I have been on a health kick, as I have a wedding in August and I need to fit into my dress.

Cereal is a big thing in our house, we all adore it! Although not the good healthy cereal, we are more a chocolate cereal family. So when I was asked to join in the #RealMumsAllBran 5-Day Challenge and it involved a chocolate, but healthy breakfast I really couldn’t say no!

When the cereal arrived the first one I tried was the new Chocolate Wheats, I wasn’t sure I would like them as at first glance they reminded me of a cereal that I don’t really like but I really was pleasantly surprised. I actually loved them, I loved the taste, and the chocolate bits where a great added bonus.

I felt like I was being naughty eating them, but felt fuller for a lot longer compared to how I usually feel after our usual cereal. This cereal I would buy again, and it was a hit with Baba as well. He thought they tasted just as nice as our usual cereal.

The next cereal I tried was the Red Berry Crunch, again I was nervous about this, I am not a general berry lover in cereal and I wasn’t convinced, I really did try, but I just could not get my taste buds to like the cereal. The sharpness of the berries is not something I can do first thing in the morning so they were quickly passed on. Which was actually a shame as the rest of the cereal seemed really nice.

So I was really pleased when I tried the Golden Crunch and it was the same cereal base as the Red Berry Crunch but with Golden Syrup instead. This cereal was gorgeous, beautifully sweet and I loved the clusters in the cereal. This was another cereal that I would buy again, and like the Chocolate Wheats I really did feel fuller for longer.

The five-day challenge wasn’t just about the taste though it was about the feeling in our tummies as well. 90 to 95% of the ‘happy’ hormone serotonin is made in the gut and a study of 1,000 UK woman found that 52% experience digestive problems, such as a bloating and gas at least once a week. Eating fibre everyday is a remedy for this.

I think I have quite a bad digestive system and after each pregnancy it has got worse. After Boo I have had a few problems and I did feel better eating these cereals. I felt fuller, less bloated, not massively but a little. I am not 100% sure if this was due to the cereal or due to the fact that I wasn’t then snacking on rubbish immediately after eating my cereal as our usual cereal never filled me up. But something was making a difference and I did feel better in a short space of time, so it isn’t something to be knocked in my book.

Due to the fact that two out of the three cereals I would buy again with no hesitation was also a bonus, and they weren’t just liked by me they were liked by Baba and Mr L as well, and I felt a lot better Baba eating a better breakfast than he usually has.
